Hollow Knight: Silksong has been delayed

Sequel to the much beloved 2D Metroidvania will not be released in June.

Earlier today via Twitter, Matthew Griffin from Team Cherry gave fans a short but not very sweet update about the highly-anticipated sequel to the developer’s 2017 2D Metroidvania, Hollow Knight. As you can tell from the title of the article, the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong has been delayed.

The sequel was initially slated for release in June or the first half of 2023, however, even as the months drew closer, Team Cherry did not announce an official release date. This of course was a cause for concern but at least now we somewhat know why it has been delayed.

Here is what Griffin said in his tweet, “Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong. We had planned to release (it) in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

Let’s hope the devs are using the extra time to stomp out bugs. | Team Cherry

Looking on the bright side, at least the game has not been cancelled and Team Cherry is taking their time making the sequel as good as it can be. However, after waiting for six years, I am quite sure fans will be expecting big things from the sequel so hopefully the wait was worth it.

However, this is also a good thing for those who have not actually finished or played the first game as this would be a great time to get into it. For PC gamers, you could even install a fan-made mod to add voice acting to the game.
