The new SELPHY CP1500 is a wireless compact photo printer that is designed around dye-sublimation printing, which offers smoother colour tones and richer gradations.
This compact, portable printer also has an automatic correction feature that adjusts the brightness, saturation, contrast and tones in images so that it stands out when printed. On top of that, the printer will apply an overcoat that protects the photo from water, dirt, colour fading and fingerprints, Canon says that it can last up to 100 years if you keep it properly stored in an album.
You can now also change things up a little and add patterned overcoats – a frame of stars or cascading flowers, or even a working QR code to a link of your choice – with the SELPHY Photo Layout 3.0 app (iOS, iPadOS, and Android OS). The app also allows camera access or cloud-based sources like Canon’s own image.canon service or popular platforms like Instagram and Google Photos.
Designed around social interactions and social events, the SELPHY CP1500 can connect up to eight smartphones directly (no limit if via a router), and the optional NB-CP2LI battery pack (sold separately) is good for up to 72 prints. Pairing is straightforward in the sense you simply scan a QR code – but you need to do it through the Photo Layout app. The printer is also AirPrint and Mopria compatible. Alternatively, if you prefer a more traditional method, the SELPHY CP1500 has a USB-C 2.0 port and an SD card reader.
Canon has yet to finalise the pricing of the SELPHY CP1500, though they have confirmed that it will be available in two colours (black and white) from authorised Canon dealers in September 2022.
