The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G will be available tomorrow starting 14 July 2021. It’s designed for students or people looking for an affordable second screen solution to complement their existing laptops and workflows.
As such, you get a large 12.4-inch display (2560×1600) though the downside is that it’s a TFT display visually it won’t be as striking but it will likely be more energy efficient – as we mentioned, this is designed to be a tool, first and foremost.
And it’s designed to be thin – 6.3mm – to make it more portable despite the large display size. It weighs 608g, which isn’t too bad, and they also squeezed in a large 10,090 mAh battery, which supports 45W fast charging. The downside is that you don’t get the 45W charger in the bundle. They’ve also managed to squeeze in a pair of stereo speakers that are Dolby Atmos ready, while the Type C USB 3.2 Gen 1 port supports DisplayPort output.
The Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G uses an Octa-core processor (2×2.2GHz + 6×1.8GHz) paired with either 4GB RAM and 64GB storage or 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Storage is expandable up to 1TB via microSD.
The tablet comes with the S Pen included; apps to utilise the implement include Samsung Notes to convert handwriting to text while automatic tags are added to improve searchability. If you take notes regularly you can use the Audio Bookmark feature to sync your notes with audio recordings. They’ve also included Clip Studio Paint and Canva (both free trials) for those interested in illustrations. Noteshelf is included for free, though.
Multitasking features include Multi-Active Window, which lets you open up to three apps at once and you can launch them as a combination with App Pair. The tablet also has DeX compatibility and with Book Cover Keyboard ($268) you can change the UI to be more PC-like. Alternatively, you can make the tablet a second screen for your PC with the Second Screen app. And as long as you have a supported Samsung device, you can copy and paste text or images between devices, and even take calls or send and receive text messages.
The tablet will go on sale on 14 July 2021 at major consumer electronics & IT stores, online stores Samsung Online Store , Lazada and Shopee , Samsung Education Store as well as Samsung Experience Stores, and from 17 July, Saturday, at M1, Singtel and Starhub. Choose from two configurations: 64GB, 4GB RAM for $898 and 128GB, 6GB RAM for $998. Available colours are Mystic Black and Mystic Green.
