Arlo’s new security camera is as the name suggests, packed with everything that you need in a security camera. So where do we begin?
For starters, I can’t think of an essential feature that it lacks. The camera records video in full-colour 1080p, or colour night vision so you can capture the best visuals day or night. If you need to be able to see what’s lurking in the dark, you can turn on the integrated spotlight, or set it to be motion activated. The Arlo can also send you alerts (to your phone) when it detects movement.
The Arlo also has a speaker and microphone built-in so you can hear and speak to visitors, and a siren to annoy them when you don’t – just kidding. Like the spotlight, you can also set the siren to trigger automatically.

A long-lasting battery (up to six months) the Arlo keep a wire-free design, so you can place it anywhere in the house without worrying about how to tuck away unsightly power cables. It’s also weather-resistant, which means you can also mount it outdoors without worrying about the elements.
The Arlo doesn’t need a base station to function, so you can connect the camera directly to your WiFi network and integrate it with Alexa, Assistant or IFTTT. You can also link the camera to your existing Arlo SmartHub extenders.

Prices start at $239, and you can find the Arlo Essential Spotlight at major retailers like Harvey Norman, Challenger, or the online Arlo store at Lazada and Shopee. If you’re interested in cloud recordings, the camera comes with a free, three-month trial of Arlo Smart, Arlo’s AI subscription service, where you can record to the cloud and have custom notification settings for selected people, animals or packages, for example.
