OPPO Find N2 Flip raises the bar for flip phones

We don't really need flip phones, but stuff like these give us fewer reasons to say no.

As flip phones go, the OPPO Find N2 Flip makes a lot of sense with its large vertical cover screen. It’s no stretch to say that the cover display is the largest on any flip phone, measuring 3.26 inches.

It can comfortably display six notifications at one go, and that’s because Oppo opted for a vertically orientated cover screen, which seemingly makes it an effective second screen when folded shut. It’s large enough to allow quick replies to messages, toggling of settings, recording of voice notes, and answering calls without opening the phone.
On top of displaying the usual notifications and indicators, you can also have the screen show off interactive pets or GIFs as wallpapers.

The second screen shares almost the same dimensions as the main screen.

When you flip the phone open you’ll be greeted by a large 6.8-inch (21:9) Samsung-made E6 AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 1600 nits of brightness. The crease on the Find N2 Flip is visible but fairly subtle, presumably thanks to the New Generation Flexion Hinge that’s also rated for over 400,000 folds at room temperature. And with its two screens, the phone offers a Dual Preview function and FlexForm Mode, which turns the flip phone into a hands-free camera.

The Find N2 Flip weighs just 191g and measures 7.45mm when open. With its polished aluminium sides, fingerprint-resistant glass cover, and a micro-etched wave pattern across the hinge, it’s a phone that on first impression at least, feels as good as it looks.

Part of the appeal of the flip phone lies in the variety of ways to snap pictures.

In terms of SoC, Oppo opted for the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ and optimised it for power efficiency. On top of SUPERVOOC flash charging, OPPO claims day-long battery life (not yet the norm for flip phones) with its large 4,300mAh battery. It also doesn’t skimp on the camera, offering a flagship camera experience with a large 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with an f/1.8 lens. The front camera isn’t too shabby either: it’s a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor with autofocus enabled.

The Find N2 Flip is also significant for another reason; it’s the first flip foldable that OPPO has officially released for international markets–and OPPO says that it is going all-in on foldable phones.

The soft edges make for a pretty comfortable grip.
