The 16″ Acer Swift Edge is ridiculously thin and light

Some compromises are to be expected but it is still a very compelling package.

The Acer Swift Edge might well be the laptop that you never thought you needed. Creatives and content creators will definitely see the plus side–this plus-sized laptop is only large in the display department.

The Swift Edge is a new addition to Acer’s laptop lineup and is currently the world’s lightest 16″ 4K OLED laptop. It measures just 12.95mm thin–even less if you don’t count the rubber feet. And for the pièce de résistance: it weighs a mere 1.17kg, thanks in part to the magnesium-aluminium alloy chassis. It’s so light you can practically fan yourself with it on a hot day (yes, I did try).

That’s so slim, the ports are placed almost on the… edge.

Despite the slim form factor, the Swift Edge also sports a generous array of connectivity options. On top of Wi-Fi 6E wireless, Acer managed to squeeze in one HDMI 2.1 port, two USB 3.2 Gen Type-C ports (both support fast charging), two USB 3.1 Type-A ports and a multipurpose audio jack.

The laptop is powered by an 8-core, AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U (similar to Intel Core i7 1260P) or 6-core Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U CPU (similar to Intel Core i5-1240P). Acer mentioned that the Swift Edge supports fast charging for the battery, which gives you about two hours of use from 30 minutes of charging. They also mentioned that the battery maxes out at 10.5 hours in a the video playback test, though they did not specify the conditions–we’ll update this at a later date. But given the form factor, CPU capabilities, and weight of the laptop, we’re guessing that that you will need to charge it every now and then throughout the day.

The Swift Edge also sports a Microsoft Pluton security chip to provide additional protection for sensitive assets like credentials and encryption keys. Other security features include a biometric sensor and a Noble Wedge Lock slot.

The OLED display will certainly catch your eye without question.

But what most people will appreciate, perhaps more so than the weight, is the 500 nits, 4K OLED display with its quick response time of sub-0.2ms. The panel also supports 100 per cent of DCI-P3 colour gamut and it also carries the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, emphasising its excellent reproduction and dynamic range. The speakers seem average from first impressions, but that’s still not too much of a downside considering that we often have our own speakers or headphone alternatives.

The Swift Edge (SFA16-41) is now available from Acer Singapore’s e-store, retail stores and marketplaces including Shopee and Lazada. Prices start from $2,298 for the Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U model and $2,598 for the Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U model.
