ViewQwest’s new 10Gbps plan is cheaper than ever: should you finally make the jump?

Getting 10Gbps broadband is now as easy as upsizing your samural burger meal.

Two months after introducing their new high-speed internet plans, ViewQwest has simplified things even further. Now, they’re offering a single unified 10Gbps broadband plan for just $38.75 per month (effectively over a 24-month contract) — that’s less than what some of us pay for a fancy night out.

For the uninitiated, 10Gbps broadband is the pinnacle of what you can get for home internet speeds in Singapore. But here’s the kicker: ViewQwest has slashed the price by 35%, making 10Gbps more affordable than ever; their pricing is now comparable to their competitors’ 1Gbps or 2Gbps plans. With this move, ViewQwest is positioning itself as the go-to provider for those looking to future-proof their home network without breaking the bank.

Why this is a big deal

If you’re thinking, “Why would I need 10Gbps speeds?” — that’s a fair question. For most people, the difference between 1Gbps and 10Gbps may not be noticeable during everyday browsing or streaming. If you’re a gamer, content creator, or heavy data user, the extra bandwidth — especially if you upload plenty of data — may make a difference.

But in this case, ViewQwest has gone out of its way to remove any upgrade barriers, and the price has come down so much that it doesn’t matter as much if you don’t maximise it. Existing customers can upgrade for as low as $6.54 per month without waiting for their contracts to end.  If you’re looking to maximise your broadband speed, ViewQwest’s pricing will be music to your ears. If you couldn’t care less, the pricing feels reasonably close to entry-level broadband prices and stands out as an upgrade option-in-waiting. However, your decision-making process may change once the competition responds with its adjustments.

What’s the catch? Nothing explicit if you’re talking about the contract, but as affordable as this plan sounds, it benefits tech enthusiasts most — for the rest, it’s simply affordable future-proofing. Why? Because to truly make the most of a 10Gbps connection, you’ll need to invest in some serious hardware. Convenient Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems — the kind that can handle those speeds wirelessly — are still pretty expensive, and running a wired backhaul (to maximise bandwidth better) also requires a considerable hardware investment and assumes that your house is wired up with at least Cat6 cables.

Router bundles for all users

ViewQwest understands that not everyone has the right hardware to jump onto the 10Gbps bandwagon. That’s why they’ve introduced a range of router bundles tailored for mainstream users and tech enthusiasts. For example, the eero Max 7 is a Wi-Fi 7 mesh router that’s ideal for those seeking a simple, reliable setup, albeit offering only 4.3Gbps wireless (still way too much for what we do). Meanwhile, the Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro is an elegant network switch for users who want to maximise the network’s capabilities.

Availability

The new 10Gbps plan is available now with an effective monthly price of $38.75 for a 24-month contract. Promotions for router bundles are also available, starting at $45/month for the first 10 months with the eero Max 7. ViewQwest customers who are eligible for re-contract are also eligible for a further discount, while customers who are not eligible can top up a small sum to enjoy a speed upgrade.
