PRISM+ continues to evoke its trusty playbook for new TV launches with an aggressive pricing strategy. The new U-Series and AL-Series of 4K TVs feature Mini-LED QLED and OLED panels and are offered at–you guessed it– pretty competitive prices.
However, standing firm at the forefront of these ‘deals’ is the company’s latest addition to its size options: the Q100 Ultra, which they have instead cheekily marked as Singapore’s very first 100” QLED TV. Samsung has a 98” offering, but two inches is two inches period #thatswhatshesaid.
The big one
The Q100 Ultra has 4K UHD resolution, a refresh rate of 120Hz and localised dimming. It also has a respectable 120W (peak power output) speaker system that supports 2.1.2ch Dolby Atmos built-in. Without taking anything away from the specs, the limited-time promotional price of SGD3,999 is the headline maker.
This makes the Q100 Ultra significantly cheaper than the QLED Samsung QN90A (SGD13,999) and the Hisense U7K 100 (SGD10,099), which isn’t QLED, but you get the idea. The alternative would be to buy something like a Xiaomi S PRO (18,000 RMB) direct from China, but you have to love administrative pain to do something bonkers like that.
The 86” Q86 Ultra has similar features but does not get the 2.1.2ch speaker system. It’s priced at SGD2,399.
U Series
Also new is the U-Series, which features a Mini-LED backlight system. The series consists of two models–U65 and U75–and can hit 1,400 nits brightness at its peak and features full-array local dimming to reduce blooming. It supports Dolby Vision IQ (i.e. it has a light and motion sensor for optimisation), HDR10+, HLG, Filmmaker Mode and Dolby Atmos. It’s also suited for console gaming as it supports two HDMI 2.1 ports and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The U-Series is likely to be PRISM+’s focus moving forward as Mini-LED TVs are inherently the sweet spot for technology and price–it offers image quality close to OLED but sans the burn-in concerns and better affordability.
Alpha Series
The Alpha Series of OLED TVs consist of 55”, 65” and 77” options and now feature Google TV, 4K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, and two HDMI 2.1 ports, making them perfect for a console gaming setup. On top of that, the TVs come with an in-built 2.1.2ch Dolby Atmos sound system. Like the U Series, the Alpha Series will also feature Dolby Vision IQ. The series maintains its aggressive pricing strategy, pegging the TVs around 40-50% cheaper than the big three’s offerings.
