ViewQwest has overhauled its broadband lineup from the ground up with a new XGS PON broadband service and set a new standard for home internet connectivity with a keenly priced base plan.
XGS PON builds on Singapore’s existing GPON network by enabling symmetrical uploads and downloads — in other words, upload speeds are much faster and are now identical to download speeds. This makes the 3Gbps base plan offering interesting, as it is priced to compete with base 1Gbps plans in the market. Thanks to the new XGS PON architecture, it has upload speeds that are faster than the competition’s download speeds.
Dubbed ViewQwest X, the new range of plans also offers 5Gbps and 10Gbps options and is not bundled with routers; this caters to users — especially power users — who demand flexibility or the right of choice in fashioning their home internet setups.
The Future is Here: XGS PON Network
We know how things work around here. Nobody rocks the boat for the longest time, someone crosses the line, and everyone else scrambles behind like it’s FOMO-o’clock. With ViewQwest kicking in the door, we can expect the rest to follow suit in the near future. No one can make a case for 10Gbps being a practical option for most people, but the power users who want it have ways and means to make it work, reiterating the adage that it’s the journey, not the destination, that counts.
But the shining star here is the 3Gbps plan, which is where things get interesting because the value proposition is, for now, unmistakable. While Viewqwest makes it a point not to tie you down with a router bundle, they do offer eero Pro 6E (Wi-Fi 6E) and eero Max 7 (Wi-Fi 7) routers as bundles at attractive prices, which is great, especially if you are looking to buy a Wi-Fi 7 router to maximise Wi-Fi speeds with compatible Wi-Fi 7 devices.
For those who love to play with their networks and take them to the next level (literally and figuratively), Viewqwest also offers a 10Gps SFP+ module and the Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE in its store.
ViewQwest can’t — and won’t — claim to offer the cheapest plans, but they have certainly kept the prices competitive (two-year contracts in this case):
- 3 Gbps: $20.98/month for the first 10 months, then $44.98/month (effectively $34.98/month)
- 5 Gbps: $32.99/month for the first 10 months, then $56.99/month (effectively $56.99/month)
- 10 Gbps: $44.98/month for the first 10 months, then $68.98/month (effectively $68.98/month)
Bundled plans with routers and SFP+ modules are also available:
- eero Max 7 (Wi-Fi 7) bundle: starts from $35.99/month for the first 10 months, then $59.99/month (effectively $49.99/month)
- eero Pro 6E (Wi-Fi 6E) bundle: starts from $28.98/month for the first 10 months, then $52.98/month (effectively $42.98/month)
- SFP+ module bundle: starts from $20.98/month for the first 10 months, then $44.98/month (effectively $34.98/month)
- Dream Machine SE bundle: starts from 35.99/month for the first 10 months, then $59.99/month (effectively $49.99/month)
ViewQwest is replacing its portfolio with ViewQwest X plans, meaning that their base services start from 3Gbps XGS GPON. If eligible, existing customers can renew their contracts to access these new plans, otherwise, there’s a Speed Upgrade promotion that works out to a top-up of +$3.27/month for 3Gbps, +$6.54/month for 5Gbps, and +$13.08/month for 10Gbps speed boosts, with a minimum commitment period of 12 months.
ViewQwest’s new service represents a significant step forward. With blazing-fast speeds, customisable bundle options, and competitive pricing, ViewQwest will certainly shake up the broadband scene. For those looking to upgrade their home network now, ViewQwest X is certainly a compelling option.
