With the Galaxy Z Fold7, Samsung closes the gap with candybar flagships a little more, once more. At just 215g, this is Samsung’s lightest Fold ever, yet it packs a 200MP Ultra-grade camera, a flagship-class chipset, and tightly integrated AI features. Are we finally tipping the point where this isn’t just “good for a foldable,” and just… good?
A new generation of hardware refinements
For one, it weighs only 215g. That’s lighter than the S25 Ultra. Folded, it’s just 8.9mm thick; unfolded, 4.2mm. The wider 6.5″ cover screen makes it feel less like a TV remote, and the improved hinge mechanism is smoother, sturdier, and better at resisting dust.
The inner display also receives a boost—now 8.0 inches across with slimmer bezels, Vision Booster, and 2,600 nits of peak brightness, making it easier to use outdoors or for watching content in tablet mode.
It’s equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, featuring customisations for improved power management, given the relatively small battery size—4,400mAh. Still, Samsung claims this is the most efficient Fold yet. One UI 8 dynamically allocates resources based on how you’re using the phone—folded, unfolded, gaming, or editing—so the battery doesn’t get drained by idle background tasks.
It’s also more durable than ever—there’s a titanium plate under the main screen, the Ultra Thin Glass is now 50% thicker, and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protects the front.
Security’s been upgraded thanks to Knox Matrix, which can detect if one of your devices is compromised and sign you out from the rest, while KEEP (Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection) ensures sensitive data stays locked to each app.
Ultra main camera and AI take centre stage
While the 200MP main camera is a huge leap—and possibly on par with the S25 Ultra—the supporting cast doesn’t quite match the same “Ultra” ambition. The 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP 3x telephoto are solid and familiar, but aren’t top-tier.
AI is where Fold7 flexes harder. With One UI 8, multimodal Galaxy AI feels truly native—screen-aware, voice-aware, and context-smart. You can:
Drag and drop AI-generated content between multiple windows
Use Result View to separate your original from AI-edited versions
Use Circle to Search during gameplay
Call up Gemini Live to explain what’s on your screen mid-task
Even the photo editor feels smarter, with suggested object erases and side-by-side editing that actually utilises the screen real estate. There’s Audio Eraser too—useful for cutting wind or traffic noise from your video clips without leaving the Gallery app.
The whole editing stack—visual or audio—runs on-device thanks to the ProVisual Engine and improved NPU. The result: faster response, no cloud lag, and fewer privacy trade-offs.
Still a luxury, but fewer limitations
Price is likely still a barrier — it starts at SGD 2,698, with the 1TB model at SGD 3,328. However, at this point, you’re buying a Fold knowing it’s a niche phone, albeit less gimmicky than before. You get an Ultra-tier camera, more refined productivity, and AI features that feel less tacked on. It’s not perfect, but it’s starting to make the slab phone feel dated.
