The Arlo Essential Video Doorbell is now Wire-Free

Arlo's Video Doorbell gets an essential update.

Arlo’s Essential Video Doorbell Wire-Free will be rolling into stores come 16 February – unfortunately, not in time to show off its features to your visiting relatives.

In essence, it is the wireless version of the popular Wired Video Doorbell, replete with a wire-free design that is infinitely more convenient to install. Not to mention that you have virtually no constraints when it comes to power. And if you’re wondering, the battery is good for up to six months before needing a recharge, so the upkeep is not that painful as well. But if that bugs you, you could always connect it to mains power (you probably need to get it professionally done).

What is more compelling is the 180-degree viewing angle and 1:1 aspect ratio, which allows you to see your visitor from head to toe as well as what he or she has placed at their feet. Visitors can also leave a voice message that you can listen remotely at any time you wish.

Ultimately, you’ll need all the quality-of-life stuff as well, and the Arlo seems to check most of the boxes in this regard. Other features include sending a live stream straight to your phone the moment the doorbell rings so you can take action immediately, HDR Video and night vision capability to maximise video quality – after all, what’s the point if all the faces are fuzzy – and it’s weather-resistant as well. It can connect to your router without the need for a base station and it supports mainstream smart platforms like Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT.

The Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wire-Free ($329) will be rolling out to major retailers like Harvey Norman, Challenger and the official Arlo store on Lazada Singapore and Shopee Singapore from 16 February 2021. The rechargeable battery ($79) can be purchased separately on Shopee and Lazada . Though I’m not sure why you would want to pre-order that option is available as well right now.
