The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold goes after the foldable bulk

Last time around, Google made its folding tougher. This time, it’s making it more portable. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold weighs 239g, down from 258g, and measures 10.1mm thick when folded, down from 10.8mm. Unfolded, it shrinks from 5.2mm to 5.0mm.

Google has also redesigned the hinge, switched to a composite matte back and adopted a dual-pill camera arrangement that lets the phone fold flat. The new fold is supposedly three times more durable than its predecessor and uses a larger bend radius along with a thicker glass layer on the inner display to minimise the crease.

Brighter screens, same 8-inch workspace

The screens get a slight spec bump; the outer display inches outward slightly from 6.4 to 6.5 inches and now features a 1–120Hz Super Actua display (over the previous 60–120Hz Actua panel). The inner display remains 8 inches and has the same 1–120Hz refresh range. And like the Pixel 11 Pro, peak brightness on all screens are now 3,600 nits.

The usual foldable tricks apply. Split Screen runs apps side by side; Drag & Drop moves images, links, video or text between them, while Bubbles can float supported apps, including the browser, Calendar and Gemini, over the main screen. Google says up to five compatible apps can be bubbled at once. Tabletop mode also lets the Fold prop itself up for video or hands-free photography.

The Fold also receives the HiLight feature, which uses LEDs around the camera flash for colour-coded calls from favourite contacts and status cues while talking to Gemini hands-free.

Google also announced a Fold-specific sign-to-text use case for supported countries and languages. With the phone propped open, American Sign Language captured by the front camera can be translated into text in Live Transcribe or Gboard and shown on the outer display.

The main camera finally gets a bigger sensor

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold keeps the 48MP resolution on its main camera but bumps up the sensor size from a 1/2-inch sensor to a new 1/1.56-inch one, with a claimed 56% improvement in light sensitivity. The Super Zoom (digital zoom) also increases from 20x to 30x. It’s accompanied by a 10.5MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto, both with 1/3.2-inch sensors.

Like other folding phones, you get several shooting modes with the screen open. Rear Camera Selfie uses the outer display as a viewfinder while shooting with the main camera; Dual Screen Preview lets the subject see the framing; and Made You Look displays animations on the outer screen to attract a child’s attention.

Magic Capture and Camera Looks arrive as part of the wider Pixel 11 camera update, while the Fold can use its half-open position as its own stand for hands-free astrophotography. Other video features include Creator Suite, Video Boost, and Night Sight Video, alongside 4K recording at up to 60 fps.

‘Pro Fold’ does not mean Pro cameras

To be fair, cameras on folding phones have less depth space to work with, so it’s not just Google that faces this limitation. As such, the Fold’s main and telephoto hardware sits closer to that of the regular Pixel 11 than to that of the Pixel 11 Pro — its ultrawide is smaller on paper than even the regular Pixel’s. The telephoto seems identical, however.

The battery is smaller too

The slimmer form factor does come with a price, though. The battery is now 4,806 mAh, down from 5,015 mAh on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Rated battery life is now 24+ hours, down from 30+ hours on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Wired charging speeds remain unchanged at 50% in about 30 minutes, while wireless charging improves from 15W to 25W Qi2.2 Pixelsnap. It also has an Extreme Charging Mode, which can temporarily prioritise charging over normal phone performance.

Tensor G6 brings the same wider Pixel 11 changes, including Google’s claims of up to 20% better power efficiency and 50% more TPU compute. Gemini Intelligence, Titan M3, and other shared Pixel 11 software features come along for the ride, including Android 17’s Quick Share interoperability with compatible iPhones and Macs, as well as Google’s improved phone-switching flow.

Google also lists an all-new, faster and more power-efficient modem, improved Face Unlock, Android 17 at launch and seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates.

What does SGD 2,499 buy you?

How does it compare to the ‘benchmark’ Samsung Fold? The Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at SGD 2,499, almost toe-to-toe with Samsung’s SGD 2,498 Galaxy Z Fold8.

Although fundamentally different phones because of the form factor, the Pixel 11 Pro does have a better camera package and more RAM — but it’s also far bulkier. Against the SGD 2,798 Fold8 Ultra, the comparison is a bit more telling. Similar displays, but the Fold8 weighs 215g and measures 8.9mm folded, while sporting a more ambitious camera system with 200MP wide, 50MP ultrawide and 10MP 3x telephoto cameras.

The useful upgrade is the boring one

Putting aside the benefits of the new series 11 updates (covered here in more detail), the Pixel 11 Pro basically sorts out one of the biggest problems with the Pixel 10 Pro — its immense size, which sticks out more in the 2026 meta of super-slim folding phones.

Shaving off 19 grams and 0.7mm from the folded thickness, a flatter camera arrangement, and brighter screens — on top of the larger main-camera sensor and faster wireless charging — are not glamorous upgrades, just necessary ones.
