Fight fire with fire — if a scammer tries a deepfake call on you, HONOR’s Magic7 Pro will call it out immediately. And this is but one of several AI-powered firsts that the phone boasts.
AI smartphone features aren’t new, but the Magic7 Pro looks to have gone further than most. On paper, the Magic7 Pro’s new features seem no different from typical incremental updates you find on its peers, but you might be surprised by how much AI underpins the core experience.
AI is the heart of the Magic7 Pro
Don’t be disappointed if you think none of the AI advancements seem blockbuster. The fact is, they work quietly under the hood, enabling uniquely helpful features that are hard to achieve otherwise. For example, AI Deepfake Detection is arguably the Magic7 Pro’s calling card, as it is the first smartphone to offer such a feature. The phone examines frame information during video calls to identify pixel-level imperfections and anomalies and issue warnings, making this an asset in this age of scam calls.
While features like Google’s Circle to Search are slowly permeating the mainstream, it is essentially an enhanced form of Google Search. HONOR’S Magic Portal builds on this idea by integrating applications to make the experience more intuitive. Circling text or images brings up contextually relevant apps or services, suggesting tailored actions, such as opening shopping apps for circled products, travel apps for landmarks, or movie streaming platforms.
Need translation? The Magic7 Pro supports instant translation in 14 languages for text and speech — listen to translated speech at conferences or communicate with someone by viewing translated text on a split screen on the phone. Productivity junkies can use AI Notes to summarise long documents, meetings and even online articles. The Magic7 Pro also incorporates Google Gemini, which many will be familiar with, for the best of both worlds.
Cameras that think for themselves
The cameras here are no slouch:
- 50MP Super Dynamic Falcon Main Camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and f/1.4 adjustable aperture.
- 50MP Wide Camera for landscapes and group photos.
- 200MP Telephoto Camera with f/2.6 aperture and 1/1.4-inch sensor.
But what differentiates these from everyone else — you guessed it — is HONOR’s implementation of AI. The AI Image Engine uses large AI models to enhance images, focusing on lighting conditions, light and shadow balance, clarity and texture enhancement. The Magic7 Pro can also emulate the renowned Studio Harcourt’s signature portrait style (an official collaboration) to give your portrait photos a dramatic impact.
No surprises for guessing why the telephoto camera has a 200MP sensor, but you will be surprised that HONOR only uses a 3x optical zoom while claiming up to 100x digital zoom, thanks to the cloud-based AI Super Zoom. In doing so, the phone eschews a more bulky and complicated periscope design.
Other features include HD Super Burst, which captures high-speed motion at 10 frames per second, and AI Eraser, which cleans up unwanted photobombers.
Top-draw hardware
As you would expect from a flagship, the Magic7 Pro gets top-of-the-line hardware, which includes the best Snapdragon chip money can buy — the 8 Elite — for uncompromising performance in photography, gaming or media consumption. The phone is also well-equipped to provide stunning visuals and audio through its vibrant 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display (adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of 5,000 nits) paired with surround subwoofers for robust, full-range sound quality. The Magic7 Pro also sports cutting-edge and efficient silicon-carbon batteries and meets both IP68 and IP69 (better resistance against high-pressure and high-temperature water jets) requirements.
RSR: The luxe choice for design buffs
For those who want the pizazz at any expense, the Porsche Design Magic7 RSR offers a sleek, Porsche-inspired 3D glass back, which includes a distinctive hexagonal camera module accented with aerodynamic lines and exclusive colours like Agate Grey and Provence harking to their German auto counterparts. But the differences between this and the regular model aren’t merely cosmetic — the RSR’s upgraded telephoto lens outshines the competition.
Its 200MP telephoto camera features a larger f/1.88 aperture for better performance in low light, a dual electromagnetic focus actuator that improves focus speed and accuracy for sharper images in dimly-lit scenarios, a 1200-point LiDAR Matrix to improve autofocus performance for moving subjects, and a floating telephoto lens for enhancing resolution.
