Sony has refreshed its BRAVIA TV lineup for 2025. It introduces a new QD-OLED TV, a massive 98-inch Mini LED model, and a new generation of BRAVIA Theatre sound systems—all designed to bring the big screen experience into your living room.
BRAVIA 8 II: the new standard for cinematic OLED?
Sony’s BRAVIA 8 II takes over flagship duties with its ultra-slim QD-OLED panel, rich contrast, and high colour accuracy—the panel on the predecessor A95L is so good that Wonderland director Chai Yee Wei uses it as a consumer TV reference alongside a USD40k industry standard HX3110 reference monitor. From pro-grade image tuning via the XR Processor to the subtle glow of specular highlights that OLEDs used to struggle with, the 8 II is built for the kind of person who is looking out for the shadow gradation in Blade Runner or skin tones in The Revenant.
It also carries over Sony’s Studio Calibrated Modes (Netflix Adaptive, Sony Pictures Core, and Prime Video), IMAX Enhanced certification, and DTS:X support—features that were previously reserved for flagship models like the A95L. Their inclusion here backs up Sony’s positioning of bringing creator-intended experiences to a broader audience.
Alongside the usual bevy of software enhancements like XR Triluminous Max, XR Contrast Booster and screen recognition AI, Acoustic Surface Audio+ with subwoofers take Sony’s proprietary ‘speakerscreen’ to the next level.
The BRAVIA 8 II also features the Slim One Slate concept, which fuses the screen and bezel into a single minimalist surface, with a hidden rear aluminium stand that disappears from view at most angles.
BRAVIA 5: Sony’s largest 98-inch TV for 2025
If screen size matters, the BRAVIA 5 might be your answer. At 98 inches, it’s Sony’s largest screen to date—and while it uses Mini LED instead of QD-OLED, it still benefits from XR Backlight Master Drive, adapted from Sony’s professional monitors. Expect deep blacks, finely tuned highlights, and excellent contrast for movies, sports, or gaming.
With Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, Studio Calibrated Modes, Google TV, and PlayStation Remote Play, the BRAVIA 5 is equipped to deliver a comprehensive experience without necessarily paying flagship prices.
BRAVIA 2 II: entry-level but not basic
At the other end of the spectrum is the new BRAVIA 2 II—Sony’s entry-level model that packs 4K upscaling, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X support, and access to the Google TV interface. While it skips out on higher-end processing features, it retains Studio Calibrated Modes and Sony Pictures Core for a respectable cinematic experience at an accessible price point, making its creator-focused ecosystem more widely available.
BRAVIA Theatre: cinematic sound for your living room
To complete the cinema setup, Sony introduced the BRAVIA Theatre home theatre system range, which is modular and designed to scale with your needs.
The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 6 is a 3.1.2 channel Dolby Atmos soundbar with a wireless subwoofer and support for 3D surround audio via Sony’s vertical surround engine and upmixer.
The Theatre Rear 8 and Theatre Sub 7 expand your soundstage with 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, giving you a full surround setup optimised for your room layout.
All components connect wirelessly and can be controlled using the BRAVIA Connect app, offering a streamlined experience without the need to juggle multiple remotes.
