Macallan launches the Harmony Collection Smooth Arabica with interactive experiences

Coffee and whisky make for good bedfellows. And popcorn too.

by Justin Choo

In celebrating its latest release of the Harmony Collection Smooth Arabica, The Macallan has created two interactive experiences for whisky and coffee lovers.

The new collection–consisting of Intense and Smooth–celebrates the world of coffee and takes its inspiration from the Ethiopian Arabica coffee bean.

The Macallan Whisky Maker, Steven Bremner, created this collection by immersing himself in the art of coffee. For the Smooth Arabica, he devised a combination of American and European oak casks that brings out notes of a gently spiced and soft americano. It’s also designed to be paired with coffee–even lightly buttered popcorn–for an even more unique experience.

In keeping with the reverential tone to the fruit of the land, the Harmony Collection also repurposed and recycled materials, including discarded coffee bean husks, for its packaging.

There will be a pop-up at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 Departure Hall to celebrate the launch from January 1 to February 28, 2023. This pop-up, in partnership with Changi Airport Group and Lotte Duty Free, will be built from repurposed materials and will feature an interactive augmented reality experience. Visitors can bring home a personalised bag of coffee beans to complement the tasting experience of Smooth Arabica.

The Macallan will also take over The Rooftop at Design Orchard from January 14 to 18, 2023. The Alchemist café’s baristas and The Macallan’s brand ambassadors will lead you on an experiential journey, culminating in a cupping and tasting ritual where you’ll savour the new whisky with coffee and popcorn (yes, it works).

The Harmony Collection Smooth Arabica ($263) is now available at Lotte Duty Free in Singapore Changi Airport (Departure only). The Harmony Collection Intense Arabica ($288) is available at The Macallan Boutique at Raffles Hotel.

Both are essentially the same whisky but at different alcohol per volume strength (ABV), and showcase two very distinct profiles. If we have to pick one? The Smooth Arabica is ‘brighter’ and lends itself well to food pairings, while the Intense offers more complexity and invites you to pick away at its layers. One thing they have in common–both are great with coffee.
