Cult series Rick and Morty return for season 5 this June 20, and everybody wants to know if Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are able to keep up the high standards they’ve set for their critically acclaimed series.
The season 5 trailer has just been released and fan theories will no doubt flood the Internet quicker than a queue can pick up at a new boba joint in town.
The trailer teases a couple of potential plotlines – or is it just one episode? Who knows, it’s Rick and Morty. The trailer hints at Rick’s feud with a Namor/Aquaman-like “eternal foe”, Mr Nimbus, a weird bondage gear episode where Rick and Beth set out to rescue Jerry from a dungeon, Morty transporting a critically injured Rick to an unknown location (home?), a Voltron spoof with the family members as the various pilots, and the usual schtick of Rick fighting his multiverse selves.
Meanwhile, Jessica, Morty’s perennial love interest, features prominently in the trailer, perhaps hinting at a more prominent role this season. Or red herring? With Harmon and Roiland, who knows. Either way, strap up because it’s going to be a wild ride.
