Acer has been really busy over the last couple of months, which has kept us busy as well as we try our best to keep up with all their announcements. That is not about to change anytime soon because, with Computex Taipei 2023 around the corner, Acer has shared with us some of the things they will be showcasing at the tradeshow. Part of the highlights includes the new Swift Edge 16 laptop, Predator Triton 16 gaming laptop, Connect Vero W6m mesh router and updates to the developer tools for its SpatialLabs technology.
First up, let us take a look at the refreshed Swift Edge 16 (SFE16-43) laptop. Designed specifically for professionals that need an ultraportable productivity machine, the Swift Edge 16 is just 12.95mm (0.51 inches) thick and weighs only 1.23kg (2.71 lbs). Other than just being thin and light, it should also be fairly durable as its chassis is made using magnesium alloy and looks very sleek thanks to the olivine black coating.
Under all that good looks, the Swift Edge 16 is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 7040 Series processors and can be paired with up to an AMD Radeon 780M graphics processors. Depending on the processor you choose, it might even support AMD Ryzen AI, enabling this laptop to keep up with today’s AI demands and more. To round up the hardware under the chassis, this laptop can also have up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. All in all, the Swift Edge 16 should be able to handle any task or game you throw at it.
Other than that, the Swift Edge 16 also features support for Wi-Fi 7, which provides you with speeds of up to 5.8Gbps, latency of under 2ms, and multi-link capability for fast and reliable wireless connections. Also, when it comes to security, this laptop has a built-in Microsoft Pluton security processor that is enabled by default and protects your data from cyber threats and the fingerprint reader gives you added security.
However, if you are looking for a beefier machine to replace your gaming desktop or laptop, Acer also announced the latest addition to its premium gaming lineup, the Predator Triton 16 (PT16-51) which comes hot on the heels of the recently announced Predator Helios 16. The Predator Triton 16 is for those who want even more performance without sacrificing portability as it is just 19.9mm (0.78 inches) thick. Also, we have to say it looks proper stylish with its metal casing that sports a sparkling silver finish.
To enable gamers to play (and/or work) on the go with no performance issues whatsoever, the Predator Triton 16 can be fitted with up to the 13th Gen Intel Core i9 CPUs with a max turbo frequency that goes up to 5.4GHz, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, up to 32GB of DDR5 5200MHz RAM and up to 2TB PCIe M.2 SSD in RAID 0 configuration.
To keep all these high-performance hardware cool, the Predator Triton 16 uses custom-engineered 5th Gen AeroBlade 3D metal fans in tandem with Acer’s Vortex Flow technology that consists of dedicated heat pipes, exhaust vents and liquid metal thermal grease on the CPU for better heat dissipation.
On top of all that, the Predator Triton 16 also features Intel Killer DoubleShot Pro and Wi-Fi 6E technology to ensure you get the fastest and most stable internet connection while gaming, along with a bevvy of ports including two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, HDMI 2.1, a Type-C USB port with Thunderbolt 4, and a Micro SD card reader.
Speaking of internet connections, Acer has also unveiled the Connect Vero W6m mesh router. This is the company’s very first eco-friendly Wi-Fi 6E router that incorporates 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials for its minimalist and compact chassis. To make it even more environmentally friendly, it even has an Eco mode that optimises its power consumption, along with other connected devices by managing their sleep time when not in use and efficiently regulating its data frequency distribution.
This eco-conscious router is powered by a quad-core 2GHz A53 processor with 1GB LPDDR RAM and 4GB memory capacity. The router supports Wi-Fi 6E Triband (2.4- / 5- / 6GHz) AXE7800 throughput and provides speeds of up to 7.8Gbps. It can also be paired with up to four units and features a network range of up to 465m on a dual mesh system and up to 930m on a quad mesh system to effectively eliminate dead spots in an office or home environment.
Last but certainly not least, while this announcement is not exactly for consumers, it is still a very interesting one as Acer has announced an expansion of developer tools for its SpatialLabs technology, which provides more avenues to develop glasses-free, stereoscopic 3D experiences on Acer SpatialLabs Pro devices.
Part of this expansion includes support for the Unity plug-in that extends its reach to more creators across various fields, including education, architecture, construction, medicine, and more. This will allow developers to take advantage of Unity plug-in’s existing tools and verticals to enhance their experiences and help present their models in true 3D form on Acer SpatialLabs Pro Devices, without the need for specialised glasses.
Acer has hit a new milestone as they have achieved conformance for its OpenXR Runtime, making SpatialLabs Pro devices conformant with XR. This means extended reality (XR) developers can now showcase their creations with high-resolution, glasses-free stereoscopic 3D.
Finally, Acer also announced the availability of its proprietary SteamVR Bridge driver that enables developers of VR applications, ranging from virtual tours to art exhibits, and educational content, to convert their creations on Acer’s SpatialLabs Pro devices to deliver captivating imagery and clarity to users without the need for VR headsets. SpatialLabs Pro device users may also leverage the Acer SteamVR Bridge with NVIDIA Omniverse to streamline workflows and broaden their viewing options for enhanced stereo 3D projection of complex graphics, visual effects, and simulations.
