Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra fronts the S23 series with its 200MP sensor

It’s that time of the year again: Samsung drops their new Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23.

The S23 series of phones will receive the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC optimised for Samsung. Samsung says the new CPU micro-architecture boosts the processing abilities of the Galaxy S23 series by about 30 per cent compared to the Galaxy S22 series. The new phones also get a bigger vapour cooling chamber, which helps to keep your phone cool through gaming marathons, while battery capacity has been increased by 200 mAh all around.

The NPU architecture has been optimised by 49 per cent to balance performance and power. But it’s the GPU where Samsung says it has made the most ground–the optimised GPU is roughly 41 per cent faster than its predecessor.

The flagship range also features Samsung’s first Super HDR selfie camera, which can also record at 60 fps. The Expert RAW app offers a host of techniques that are usually only possible on DSLR systems–most notably, multiple exposure and astrophotography.

Undertstated colours are still in vogue.

Other improvements come in the form of little conveniences, such as the Camera Controller on the Galaxy Watch5 series, which allows you to zoom and frame the shot from your wrist without disturbing the camera. You can also use the new 360 Audio Recording feature on Galaxy Buds2 Pro to create a more immersive soundstage for video recordings.

The new Galaxy S23 series is also UL ECOLOGO certified, meaning all phones are certified for reduced environmental impact. The three phones use a wider variety of recycled materials, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra features 12 internal and external components made from recycled materials (up from six internal components last year). Even the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 consists of 22 per cent pre-consumer recycled content.

On top of Samsung Knox and Knox vault, the Security and Privacy Dashboard on Samsung Galaxy gives users full visibility over who has access to their data and how it’s being used, as well as the ability to change permissions. Users can also feel secure in the fact that the S23 series will have four generations of OS updates and five years of security upgrades.

The Ultra

Apart from the new-look camera housing across the S23 series, the Ultra sports a flatter display with a reduced curvature. The phone also has a unique Enhanced comfort feature that lets you adjust colour tones and contrast levels to help reduce eye strain.  The vision booster also offers three levels of lighting (instead of two) to improve visibility in daylight.

Like its predecessor, the S23 Ultra carries the distinctive SPen and is the sole model with a stylus built-in. Not only that, but it’s also blessed with Samsung’s best camera system, designed around a new 200 MP Adaptive Pixel sensor that offers 200MP, 50MP and 12MP photos. The camera system also features doubled optical image stabiliser (OIS) angles in all directions, which enables a wider field of view when recording video, creating a more cinematic feel.

Coupled with the new AI-powered image signal processing (ISP) algorithm featured on the new Galaxy S23 phones, the Ultra is capable of capturing dynamic photos even in abject lighting conditions.

Samsung also says that the object-based AI analyses every detail in the frame, even down to minute facial features, such as hair and eyes, to “carefully reflect a person’s dynamic characteristics.”

Galaxy Experience Space

This year, Samsung is introducing the Galaxy Experience Space concept to make the Galaxy Experience as accessible as possible. For now, it is only available in five markets globally, of which Singapore is one of them.

Starting 3rd February 2023, you can visit the space located at Gardens by the Bay, West Lawn, to check out the all-new Galaxy S23 Series through a series of experiential activities.
