Apple has announced its next wave of updates: the iPad Pro, iPad and Apple TV 4K. While the updates were generally expected, what nobody saw coming was the considerable price reduction for the new Apple TV 4K.
The new Apple TV 4K is powered by the A15 Bionic chip, which enables support for HDR10+ support for an improved home theatre experience. But what really stands out, is the new starting price of $199 for the Wi-Fi model with 64GB storage, which includes the Siri Remote.
iPad Pro
The iPad Pro receives the new M2 chip, which also enables it to capture ProRes video, and more importantly, transcode ProRes footage up to three times faster. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E.
The new iPadOS 16 adds Stage Manager, full external display support and Reference Mode amongst other things, and also a hover feature for the second-generation Apple Pencil. The tablet detects the pencil up to 12mm away so you can see the mark early before the pencil makes contact and helps improve writing and drawing precision. It also enables little touches like automatically expanding text fields for improved visibility.
Available in silver and space gray finishes with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations, the 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $1,249 for the Wi-Fi model and $1,479 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at $1,699 for the Wi-Fi model and $1,929 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
iPad
The most eye-catching thing about the new iPad is unironically, its new range of colours: blue, pink, yellow, and silver.
The iPad uses the A14 Bionic and has a larger, 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display. The front-facing camera is now located along the landscape edge, making it more conducive for video conferencing. The rear camera has also been upgraded to support 4K video and 240 fps slow-motion.
With the redesign comes an all-new Magic Keyboard Folio featuring full-size keys, 1mm of key travel, and a click-anywhere trackpad that supports Multi-Touch gestures. The protective back cover has an adjustable stand for versatility, and the keyboard itself is detachable from the cover. The new iPad also supports the first-generation Apple Pencil.
Wi-Fi models of the new iPad are available at a starting price of $679, with Wi-Fi + Cellular models starting at $909. It’s available in 64GB and 256GB configurations and comes in blue, pink, yellow, and silver. The new, matching Magic Keyboard Folio (white) is available for $379. There’s also a new Smart Folio designed for the new iPad for S$119 in white, sky, watermelon, and lemonade.
The new version of the first-generation Apple Pencil ($149) comes bundled with a new USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter, which is required for pairing and charging.
