The National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) is celebrating its 15th anniversary as a national centre for cancer care and research and has just commissioned a web-based mobile game to raise funds for the NCIS Cancer Fund.

The NCIS Cancer Fund supports cancer research and initiatives to reduce barriers for patients dealing with cancer. The fund has helped 440 patients with close to SGD1.8 million since its establishment in 2016, and NCIS aims to raise SGD20 million over the next five years.

NCIS celebrated its 15th anniversary at the NCIS Celebrates Life carnival.

NCIS is a major national specialist centre for cancer under the National University Health System (NUHS) and is the only public cancer centre in Singapore today providing end-to-end care for adults and children and serves almost one in three cancer patients within the local public healthcare system.

The centre runs over 200 clinical trials at any one time, and the fund is essential for supporting clinical trials. This includes the Quadratic Phenotypic Optimisation Platform (QPOP), an AI-driven platform to help doctors choose patient-specific drug combinations, and the live application of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell therapy, which uses cells from healthy donors.

The game NCIS Fights Cancer is designed around educating players on cancer prevention and screening. It’s developed by home-grown gamification marketing company Sqkii, which is behind the highly successful Hunt the Mouse treasure hunt.

The game is built around avoiding obstacles and collecting objects to obtain a high score. In order to acquire more tries, you can make donations to the NCIS Cancer Fund or share a cancer-related health tip.
