Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8: lighter, thinner and with new camera tricks

Samsung’s familiar clamshell keeps the same displays, battery capacity and basic camera hardware as the Flip7, but trims the body and adds Horizontal Lock to Super Steady video.

Samsung has not reinvented the Galaxy Z Flip this year. Instead, it shaved off 8g, made the phone thinner and added a useful camera trick that almost everyone can appreciate.

The 4.1-inch FlexWindow, 6.9-inch main display, 4,300mAh battery and 50MP-plus-12MP rear-camera system remain largely unchanged.

However, the Flip8 weighs 180g and measures 6.1mm thick when opened, down from 188g and 6.5mm on the Flip7. It is also thinner when closed at 13.1mm instead of 13.7mm. Seems relatively minor, but it all adds up when holding the phone.

Horizontal Lock keeps video upright as the phone turns

The fun addition is Horizontal Lock, a new option within Samsung’s Super Steady video mode. It keeps footage level as the phone rotates, so you can turn the device while the resulting video stays upright. So whether you are filming while walking, running or being pushed by people in a crowd, your footage remains perfectly stable and locked on your subject.

While this feature isn’t exclusive to the Flip8, the Camcorder Grip mode and Zoom Rocker feature let you hold and control the phone like an old-school camcorder, which is a markedly better experience. Flex Mode also lets the partially folded phone support itself for hands-free recording, and the FlexWindow can also be used to frame selfies with the rear cameras.

The underlying camera hardware specs on the new flip are essentially the same as the Flip7: a 50MP main camera with optical stabilisation and a 12MP ultrawide, coupled with a 10MP selfie camera.

More AI on the same FlexWindow

Samsung has kept the 4.1-inch FlexWindow and added more features. Now Brief can place personalised information and suggested next steps on the cover screen; Gemini Intelligence can also be activated through the side key or by voice, and supports more inter-app actions, a feature that will first launch in the US and Korea, with more regions and languages to follow later in the year.

There is one notable hardware upgrade — the Flip8 sports a new Exynos 2600 processor. Both storage versions come with 12GB of memory, while charging remains at 25W wired and 15W wireless.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 price and availability in Singapore

The Galaxy Z Flip8 has a simple pitch: it is the tried-and-tested Samsung clamshell — only lighter, thinner, and marginally easier to film with. Not particularly revolutionary, but not every annual phone update needs to be.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip8 open on 22 July 2026 at 9pm. Customers who pre-order can receive or collect their phones from 10 August, ahead of general availability on 14 August 2026.

The 256GB model costs SGD 1,678, while the 512GB version is priced at SGD 1,978. Pink, Cream and Graphite will be sold through the usual channels, with Mint exclusive to the Samsung Online Store and Samsung Shop app.

Samsung is offering SGD 150 off the 512GB storage upgrade during the pre-order period, reducing the effective difference between the two configurations.
