Sony Float Run headphones: the perfect earbuds for running?

The earbuds sit outside your ears to promote situational awareness and reduced chafing.

Sony’s new Float Run headphones are as the name describes–they ‘float’ off your ears, offering the promise of comfort along with a stable, secure fit.

The headphones weigh only 33g and feature a lightweight and flexible neckband that doesn’t slip during motion. The off-ear design positions the speaker near the ear canal without touching it and leaves the ear uncovered. Sony claims that despite the exposed nature of this setup, the Float Run can deliver a rich sound experience with its 16mm drivers that have been tuned for a more natural and wider sound.

This unique design also prevents sweat and chafing from interfering with your workout. Float Run was designed with runners in mind, but I suppose this should work for other vigorous activities as well.

As to be expected, the Float Run is resistant to sweat and rain (IPX4) and has a 10-hour battery life (1hr with a 10-minute quick charge) so even endurance athletes are covered in this department.
