Xbox gamers now have a top of the line gaming monitor to lust after. The ASUS ROG Strix XG43UQ Xbox Edition gaming monitor is a 43-inch screen co-designed by R&D teams from both companies to bring out the best in the console. And more.
Asus says the Strix XG43UQ Xbox Edition enables native 4K (3840×2160) gaming without chroma subsampling on Xbox Series X when connected via HDMI 2.1. The display also supports up to 120 Hz for Xbox Series X|S. You can also hook up your PC to this display as it supports 4K at 144Hz via DisplayPort 1.4 and has a response time of 1ms (MPRT).
What’s built in to support the Xbox Series X and S are colour, contrast and hue settings that have been calibrated by the team for best results. The monitor also has an HDR Gaming Interest Group (HGiG) profile for an enhanced experience while HDR is on. Although the panel is VA type instead of the more familiar IPS, it meets 125 per cent sRGB and 90 per cent DCI-P3 colour, so it’s not that big of a compromise.
One thing that typical TVs have an advantage over monitors is the brightness of the internal lights. The Strix is DisplayHDR 1000 certified, which means it has a maximum brightness of 1000 nits – a spec only found on high-end TVs. You don’t have to complain about not being able to see clearly in dark places anymore. The Low Latency mode to reduce input lag kicks in automatically, and Asus says it is less than half that of regular 4K TVs.
And if you are a Radeon user you’re in luck, because the Strix XG43UQ Xbox Edition supports FreeSync Premium with Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB Sync) to eliminate ghosting and screen tearing.
Connectivity options are fairly basic: USB 3.0, HDMI 2.1 and 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, audio line-in, and an earphone jack, but it also comes with a remote control to adjust display settings.
There is quite a price to pay though – the monitor retails for $2,199, though you can buy it at $1,999 during the pre-order period from 1 July to 31 July 2021 .
