As far as remakes go, Ghosts ‘n Goblins Ressurection is not the first of its kind, and neither will it be the last, we think, because the original is one of the true classics of gaming. It’s a reboot of one (technically a couple) of Capcom’s most iconic side-scrollers: Essentially, it is a ‘best of’ reimagination of Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, the most iconic games in the franchise.

The series is famed for its difficulty, and you can always watch Youtubers like the Angry Video Game Nerd rage over what made the game frustratingly tough. But its difficulty level was what made the game addictive as well.

While it is not the first reimagination of the franchise, the latest reboot brings the best moments of the series to the Nintendo Switch with a new stylised look.

Capcom TV released a couple of minutes worth of gameplay, and it looks like they’ve updated some elements to keep it in line with expectations of modern players. For example, you have more visible checkpoints now, and more importantly, you don’t die after taking one hit without armour.

For someone who has little experience playing classic side-scrolling platformers, the game looks insanely challenging. But I suppose that’s the whole point. Don’t worry though, there’re four difficulty levels to choose from so it doesn’t have to be painful from the get-go. There certainly seems to be less cheese this time round (so far), so it’s not soul suckingly difficult (hahaha). Context: the original games were well known for their cheap shots, which admittedly was part of the charm, but from the footage, the reboot doesn’t seem to have those lying in wait. For grizzled veterans, the level designs look fresh enough to give this another shot.
